This is our last part of the series, Claiming Your Inspirational Style. We have covered significant ground in creating a designer like space. This process began with finding our inspiration piece, selecting paint colors, then adding in colors, fabric, and patterns. The last step will complete your space!
Step 4: Pulling your space together with textures and accessories.
Your space has evolved since the first coat was purposely rolled on. Now that we have painted walls and coordinating fabrics its on to the best part, seeing everything come together. Your textures and accessories are the final additions to the space. Tailoring these items through your inspiration piece will finish out your look.
Textures are very important to creating dimension and further grounding your style. Normally the word texture is easily linked to wicker, but texture comes in other ways. Leather, rope, chenille, and glass add dimension as well.
Accessories do not have to be from the same style or time period. Our example shows how you can take different styles, modern and traditional, and combine the looks.
We started with the inspiration piece- a bold rug. Then we added in florals, stripes, and geometric fabrics to balance our color scheme. Next we added texture in both window coverings and accessories. Notice the woven wood shades are adding dimension, they can even be softened by layering drapes.
Also take a look at the more traditional ceramic vase. The vase has a texture of its own and while mixed in with other modern ceramics we have blended two styles together in one space. The mirror will reflect light and make a impact from its color and stately frame.
Viola! Our room is complete. This would be the perfect home office. Possibly another project?
How are your spaces coming along? What textures would you like to add in?
