Its our second installment in The Life of a. . . four-part series. For this series we will be showcasing the very swanky tufted couch.
A tufted couch is so appealing on many levels, but what I love most about the look is how you truly can put together very different rooms. You can create a sophisticated, modern, or even shabby chic look all with the very same tufted couch. This is such a great example of ideas you can springboard from when you are inspired from a magazine, home tour, or Pinterest.
Today, 3 distinct ways to use a tufted couch.
Use a tufted couch to create an inviting, sophisticated (but not stuffy) living room. With the right accessories, textures, and colors your tufted couch can be a centerpiece to the room. This space has a nautical feel from using an ocean inspired abstract, a sisal rug, and rope lamp. The green geometric pillows are pulled from the green hues in the abstract and play off the diamond pattern of the tufting. The dark blue throw compliments the green and is also pulled from the abstract. The movement of the abstract is balanced by the geometric prints to bring balance to the space. Although this space is slightly nautical, its done in a very sophisticated and welcoming way. I would layer in woven wood shades and drapes to keep the texture consistent!
This tufted couch takes on a completely different personality when paired with shabby chic inspired accessories. Soft and subtle textures like throws and soft rugs add depth to this room. The linen upholstery of the tufted couch works well with the updated shabby linen pillows. Adding in a mirror and other reflective surfaces help play up the style. The green and light blue throws are matched to the pillows and coordinate with an updated shabby style. Unlined burlap or linen drapes/sheers or shutters would make a great addition to the windows.
If you are looking for something more geometric and modern, the tufted couch can pull it off too. The geometric pattern from the tufting works really well with modern design. The rug and accent pillows mimic the pattern and make a statement in bold yellow and black. The stripes from the throw also follow a similar design thought. The typography print is a great addition and keeps with the modern theme. The surprising owl lamp adds a touch of whimsy and keeps the color pattern consistent. Bold banding on drapes or simple roller shades would complete this modern living room.
So do you think you can work with a tufted couch? I think these examples show how versatile this type of upholstery is and with the right accessories you can definitely make it your own!
If you have a tufted couch- modern or antique-, I’d love to see how you are using it!
Hope you were inspired, stay tuned for Part 3 next Monday where we will show off a Chevron rug.
